George Paturzo
Principal
Founded in 2013 by George Paturzo, Paturzo Yacht Design is a full-service Yacht Design studio based in the greater Ft. Lauderdale area specializing in Yacht Interiors, Profile Styling, Refits and Concept Development for new construction.
George’s career started out in Stamford CT, working as a draftsman for a local Naval Architect. It was there that he obtained the skills necessary to accept an offer to work in the Engineering Department of one of South Florida’s largest custom yacht builders. Within this environment, George quickly learned the importance of the “bridge” between design and construction and spent as much time on the shop floor as he did at the board - making sure to understand each trade and to learn how the boats were put together.
As the recession of the early 90’s had taken its toll on the yachting industry, George was called to take over the interior design and to supervise the construction of an interior that would be installed on one of the yachts that had been under construction at the yard. The boat had been pulled out of the yard as a bare hull, and the owner’s interior designer needed the expertise that George could provide. One year later the yacht went on to win the Showboats International Design award for “Most Innovative Yacht”. Following the success of the project, George was offered the Director of Design position within the firm, and his efforts led to four additional Showboat Awards during his tenure.
George has worked with US Shipyards such as Delta Marine, Trinity Yachts, Palmer Johnson, Burger, & Newcastle as well as NQEA in Australia and Cantieri di Pisa in Italy. He has worked on major refits in yards such as Rybovich Superyacht Marina, Derecktor Shipyard, Merrill Stevens, Jones Boat Yard and Lauderdale Marine Center, and is also a licensed Interior Designer. With more than 30 years of experience and having worked within the three major disciplines of yacht design and construction, George brings a unique skill set & perspective to every new endeavor.
